IN-HOUSE WORKSHOP APPLICATION HAS BEEN EXTENDED

The application deadline for the in-house HOBY workshop has been extended to Monday, December 14.  Please pick up an application in the counseling office or Mr. Sweeney's Room 103.  A one-page (500 word) essay is required with each application.  This opportunity is open to all freshmen and any sophomore that did not attend the workshop in May.  We extended the deadline because of the confusion caused with the State Leadership Seminar versus the in-house workshop; the applications were due too close together.  This is a great opportunity that we don't want you to miss.

Vote for HOBY! Deadline is Friday, December 11.

Please vote for HOBY on this website.  Vote for Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership in Westlake, CA https://app.e2ma.net/app/view:CampaignPublic/id:22497.6546305684/rid:ac5d1405201f123660760854b26ba884

2009-10 Student Ambassadors

Congratulations to Caroline Troutman and Angelo Jones for being named HOBY Ambassadors for the 2009-10 school year.  They will attend the Kentucky HOBY State Leadership Seminar at Transylvania University in June 2010.  First alternate is Megan Leonard, second alternate is Rudy McIntosh, and third alternate is Micahia Braden. We were extremely pleased with the quality and number of applications received.  Kudos to everyone who applied.

What is HOBY?

Founded in 1958, HOBY's mission is to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation. HOBY programs are conducted annually throughout the United States, serving local and international high school students.

Each fall, sophomores may apply to represent Male at the State Leadership Conference and to serve as the ambassador for school.  This is separate from the in-house conference hosted by the PTSA.

Volunteer Opportunites and Events

Information will be available soon for the 2010 HOBY In-House Conference, which will be held at The Gheens Academy on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 (we have reserved 2/9/10 as a back up weather-related date).  All freshman and any sophomore who did not attend the conference in May 2009 may apply.  There will be a separate application for HOBY Alumni to apply to work registration, serve as a panelist or a group discussion leader.

On the Metro United Way website, www.metrounitedway.net/volunteer/groupProjects1.cfm there is a section for Volunteer Opportunities especially group projects for youth volunteers. On a regular basis, there are opportunities for trail maintenance with the Olmsted Park Conservancy, and serving meals, preparing food boxes or gardening at the Salvation Army's Center of Hope Homeless Shelter, along with many others.  Check it out!
